LIMA, OHIO (WLIO) - Local students were taking their learning to the next level at Rhodes State College on Saturday.
The Rhodesology camps give the students the chance to try different STEM activities, which could spark interest in an area.
There were a variety of subjects covered at the different Rhodesology Mini-Camps the college offered. Through hands-on learning, the young made different types of slime. Some of the older kids were learning about teamwork and computer skills through the eSports camp. Plus, during the welding workshop, students put their hands to use by learning the basics of welding and fabrication. There were also camps for video editing and programming for manufacturing. The Rhodesology camps give the students the chance to try different STEM activities, which could spark interest in an area that could turn into a career in their future.
“We start out in the second grade, and we go all the way up through; we are going through eleventh grade now with Rhodesology. It just kind of starts them through different aspects, different interests. We have such a variety; they can start with one thing, and if it’s not for them, they can jump to something else and still have time to grow with that. It is also teaching them that college isn’t just what you were taught back in the day. Now there is a lot of hands-on part of it. There are a lot of trades involved in it. We have a lot of certificates that you can obtain before you even graduate high school and then enter the workforce with it,” says Ashley Hunter, Coordinator, Youth and Community Programing, Rhodes State College.
The registration for the Rhodesology summer camps will open on December 1st. Watch out for information on their Facebook page on how to sign up, or if you were a previous camper, you will be contacted beforehand to register for next years camp.
