Politicians have begun to hit the campaign trail hard with just two months until mid-term elections. Democratic candidate for governor, Richard Cordray, made a visit to Findlay on Wednesday where he toured and learned about One Energy, a facility that provides cost-effective wind energy to corporations in Ohio.
"Clean renewable energy is definitely the future of Ohio," Cordray said. "I want us to step into that future and be more aggressive about promoting projects like this. It is dependable power at a dependable cost. It will help keep bills down for consumers it will help keep bills down for businesses. It’s good jobs for Ohio, it’s where we should be going."
Cordray was also able to touch on the issues he really wants to hit home with his last few months of the campaign season. Notably, he talked about his opioid plan to put more money in treatment facilities, he touched on education, looking out for farmers interests and reducing health care costs.
"Well, you can do it by protecting the Medicaid expansion which keeps down overall health care costs in Ohio by getting more people access to coverage and promoting better health outcomes. We can improve the insurance exchanges. The pharmacy benefit middleman, the greedy middlemen, who have been taking hundreds of millions of dollars out of that system. They need to be reined in. We can negotiate harder on prescription drug prices for seniors to bring them down."
He was also able to address the recent ad his opponent, Attorney General Mike DeWine, released, claiming Cordray enabled serial rapists by not clearing the backlog of sexual assault kits.
"That issue came up when I had five months left in my tenure. We immediately got on it. We put in place the protocol that he’s used on this issue. It took him seven years to work off this problem. If he thinks I should have done it in five months he was incredibly negligent letting this fester for seven years. And if it couldn’t be done for seven years than this a completely bogus claim and he knows it."
Of the many visits Cordray has planned, he will be at a rally in Cleveland on September 13th with former President Barack Obama.
