S. Metcalf Street house fire

Firefighters were out in the cold battling a blaze this morning on Lima's south side.

The Lima Fire Department got the call shortly before 5:30 a.m. for a possible house fire at a duplex located at 622 South Metcalf Street in Lima. Flames were seen on the building's upper left side where the chimney is located. The homeowner was the only person home and escaped the building unharmed. According to the fire department, the fire started in the chimney and spread into the wall and attic of the building before they could put it out. Debris can be seen littering the driveway and front yard and there's heavy fire damage to the second floor and attic.

Damages from the fire, smoke, and water are estimated to be around $20,000.
