LIMA, OH (WLIO) - We are two weeks into early voting, and many Ohioans are taking advantage of the option for the November 7th election.
Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose is expecting a big turnout for the general election, especially with voters deciding on two statewide issues. But besides those issues, there are numerous local races and issues that will also have to be decided on. LaRose says just because it is an off-year election, doesn't mean that it's less important.
"Every four years we all get really excited about the presidential race, and it matters who lives in the White House, but what probably has a bigger impact on your day-to-day life, is not necessarily who lives in the White House, but who works at the courthouse, or the schoolhouse, or who works at city hall," says Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose. "And those are the kinds of decisions that we make this year."
There is still time to request an absentee ballot from the board of elections, and if you want to do some research before you cast your ballot, voting at home could be the way to go.
"I think many people will admit, when it comes to local candidates, school boards, judges, city council races, we all know how important those are, but sometimes you may not have your mind made up or maybe you haven't done the research on those candidates. So when you vote for your own kitchen table, flip open your laptop, sit there as a couple, and discuss your choices and that is a great way to vote as well," adds LaRose.
If you would like to request an absentee ballot, log on to the secretary of state's website or visit your county's board of elections.
