PUTNAM COUNTY, OH (WLIO) - A settlement from a lawsuit against Dollar General resulted in help for Ohio's food banks.

Putnam County Auditor Robert Benroth announced that nearly $6,000 will be split between the Ottawa Food Pantry and the Lord Pantry in Columbus Grove. The money will be used to restock their shelves. It was from a lawsuit that was filed by the state when employees of different auditor's offices around the state did price checks at Dollar General stores and found that the price at the cash register was higher than what was listed on the shelf, and was not corrected during the sale.

"These irregular things that were occurring then were taken out by Mr. Yost. He sued the corporate office and he reached a settlement of a million dollars. And Attorney Yost decided what better way to use some of this money, then here close to the holidays and right after the holidays in the cold of winter to give food pantries money," explained Putnam County Auditor Robert Benroth.

Each county auditor's office designated which food pantries will get part of the settlement, and the Ottawa Food Pantry is grateful for any donations to help their mission.

"Community is wonderful at giving us donations, provided items for us, making cash donations, it doesn't matter if you're only able to give one item or a truckload, we accept it with gratitude," stated Sandi Racer, Ottawa Food Pantry.

Benroth says he is happy to help the volunteers as they assist people in need in Putnam County.
