“You can bring tires, brush, junk furniture, but do not bring any hazardous waste or chemicals,” said Angie Rex, a property maintenance code inspector. “Paint can be accepted if it has been dried out or treated with kitty litter. If it’s still in liquid form, we won’t take it.”

Portal 2:20 Teen Center, Inc., has received a generous donation of land on N. Lynn St. in Van Wert from S&B Venture Properties, LLC. The ¾ - acre property is slated to become the new location for a brand new 5000-sq.-ft. entertainment-based facility for teens ages 13-18. The new teen center will feature gaming tables, lounge, snack bar, a stage and open space for special events. Fundraising has already begun to raise the $1 million necessary to bring Portal’s vision to life.

The Lima Symphony Orchestra’s free, public Patriotic Pops concert will be held at Ohio Northern University on Sunday, July 2 at 7 p.m. The event will take place on the sculpture mall east of McIntosh Center between Presser and Weber halls. This family-friendly concert will feature several Independence Day-themed musical selections. The LSO is under the direction of Maestro Andrew Crust.

The Christian Corner Community Center has opened a brand new food pantry for the public. The pantry is a result of a collaboration between Allen County Public Health's Creating Healthy Communities Center, Activate Allen County, West Ohio Food Bank, and Christian Corner Community Center. Organizers of the pantry say that a recent survey showed that there was a big need for another pantry in the area.

Changes happening in Ohio's Third District Court of Appeals as long-time Allen County prosecutor Juergen Waldick is sworn in as the court's newest judge. It was a packed house as the oath of office was given that shifted Allen County Prosecutor Juergen Waldick from in front of the bench, to a place on the bench of Ohio's Third District Court of Appeals.

Before that furniture ends up in a landfill, you can give those items a second life by donating to the Lima ReStore. Not only is it free and easy, but all proceeds benefit the Lima-area Habitat for Humanity. The ReStore sells everything from housewares, appliances, furniture, and building materials that are new or gently used at reduced prices. They will even accept used vehicles with Habitat's Cars for Homes program.
