As you're out there getting that Black Friday shopping done, keep in mind there are safety precautions you want to take while shopping.

The Lima Police has some tips for your shopping such as try and shop during the day. If you shop at night, go with someone else and park under a light near the business. Don't leave any valuables visible in your car, rather lock them in the trunk. Carry money in your front pocket and purses close to you. Report any missing credit cards to your companies immediately. Overall just be conscious of your surroundings.

"Always just be alert of what's around your vehicle, who's parked around your vehicle, if people are in vehicles around watching," Chad Kunkleman said of the Lima Police Department. "Just always be alert and if something doesn't feel right it's probably not. Just go back into the business."

When having packages delivered, if you can set the delivery time, set it for when someone will be home or have them delivered to an alternate location.

"Don't leave empty boxes outside like if you order a large item try not to leave that out by a trash can," said Brittney Wyerick of LPD. "That way if people driving by see if you have something, they might be more likely to break into your house."
