ALLEN COUNTY, OH (WLIO) - Whether you are a history buff or not, you will want to be at the Johnny Appleseed Metropolitan Park District's Lauer Farm this Saturday.
The grounds will be full of GIs as it will be the height of World War 2 in 1944. The living history event will center around the battle of Metz and include 360 reenactors from around the country, portraying military and civilians on the homefront. Their interpretations are held to high standards to transport observers back in time.
"Starting today, I won't leave the 1940s until Sunday afternoon when the public leaves at 3 o'clock. We live out there at the farm for 3 or 4 days at a time. We don't really, break character. Most of our modern stuff is out away like cell phones, radios, all that sort of stuff is put away," explained Matt Martini, director of Lauer Farms 1944.
Lauer Farms 1944 will be open to the public Saturday with battles at 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. and a USO-style evening at the Ohio Theatre starting at 6:30 p.m. On Sunday, battles are at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Lauer Farms is located at 800 Roush Road. The event is free but donations are accepted. You can learn more at https://lauerfarms1944.com/Â and on their Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/LauerFarms1944/.
