LIMA (WLIO) — Postseason baseball officially got underway Monday night, and Shawnee wasted little time making a statement in Division III sectional semifinal action against Mansfield Senior.
Ty Rudasil got the start on the mound for the Indians and opened the game with a pair of strikeouts in a scoreless first inning.
Shawnee quickly backed its pitcher with offense in the bottom half of the inning. Already leading 2-0, Rudasil helped his own cause with an RBI single to left field that scored Cameron Barker and pushed the advantage to three.
The Indians kept piling on moments later when Luke Menke dropped a base hit into center field, allowing Bryce Windau and Korbyn Gladen to score and extend the lead to 6-0.
The hit parade continued with Cooper Hartman lining a single over the shortstop to plate another run before Braeden Stiles added two more RBIs with a bloop single into shallow outfield grass.
In all, Shawnee sent 21 batters to the plate during a massive opening inning.
The Indians led Mansfield Senior 16-0 in the second inning before the game was suspended due to weather.
