The City of Lima Fire Department will be flushing hydrants during May and possibly into June

The Lima Fire Department is gearing up for their annual flushing of the city’s fire hydrants.

There are more than 1,300 hydrants that will be flushed for preventative maintenance. It clears the line of debris that may have formed in the last year. It also gives them a chance to see if any repairs need to be made to make sure there is water there when needed in case of an emergency.

The process may cause a fluctuation in pressure and stir up sediment that could cause your water to look a little rusty. If this happens just let your cold water run and it should clear up. If your do experience discolored water, postpone washing clothes until it clears. They are asking people to be cautious while driving near crews that are flushing the hydrants.
