Toys for Tots campaign for 2024 is officially underway

The Lima Noon Optimist Club, along with the Salvation Army and the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve, officially launched the 2024 campaign.

The Lima Noon Optimist Club, along with the Salvation Army and the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve, officially launched the 2024 campaign to raise money and toys for less fortunate kids for Christmas. Distribution boxes have been placed at more than 200 locations around Lima, including local businesses, schools, and churches, for people to drop off their new, unwrapped toys.

Every year, it seems Lima and its residents raise the bar for the Toys for Tots campaign to make every kid's Christmas a Merry one.

"Yeah, it does keep raising the bar, and there's always different kids or more kids. You know, depending on the economy, that all fluctuates, so it's always important to get the word out and get the toys started in. The way holidays fall this year, we're kind of getting some shortened days, so we don't have as much time to go collect the toys, so we gotta get out there as quick as we can and start doing that," explained Paul Downing, Toys for Tots coordinator.

Lima Mayor Sharetta Smith and Allen County Commissioner Cory Noonan both gave proclamations in honor of the campaign.
