Two bicyclists injured after being struck by car

A pair of bicyclists were struck by a car Thursday night in rural Putnam County.

The accident happened shortly after 8 p.m. on Road D just east of Road 12 near Miller City. A car driven by 26-year-old Kyle Brown of Leipsic was heading west on Road D. Three bicycles were being ridden west on the same road by 49-year-old Michael Klear, 47-year-old Sandra Klear and 10-year-old Luke Klear of Leipsic. Brown's car struck Mrs. Klear and her son, throwing both riders from their bicycles.

Continental EMS took Mrs. Klear to St. Rita's for non-life threatening injuries and life flight was used to take her son to St. Vincent's for more serious injuries. Neither the father nor the driver were injured. Alcohol is not suspected, but marijuana was allegedly found in Brown's car. After taking field sobriety tests, Brown was arrested for OVI.

The crash is still under investigation. The Putnam County Prosecutor's Office has been contacted for further charges.
