Engaging a student's natural curiosity to design a solution to a problem was the goal at Lima's Unity Elementary School on Tuesday.

The problem was getting an egg from point-A to point-B without breaking it. The solution? Creating a vehicle to keep it safe. Mrs. Kaufman's 4th-grade class has been designing and building these contraptions to safely transport their eggs down a ramp. It's all a part of "Project Lead the Way" where the curriculum encourages the students to think like engineers as they learn what can make a car safer.

"Most of the students were successful today, we had a couple eggs crack when they did a second test but most them did survive or just have minor cracks so our plan is to add some modifications on the cars and then hopefully next week take them outside to the playground and put them down one of the slides," explained Lauren Anderson, Tech. Integration Instructor.

Anderson says the project also taught the students the importance of working together on the project throughout the process of design, building, testing, and modifications.
