Van Wert Post Prepares for July 4th

Many of us look forward to the cookouts and fireworks that come with the 4th of July, but this summer holiday can cause quite a mess for law enforcement at times.

The 4th of July this year falls on a Tuesday, creating an extended weekend for officers at the Van Wert State Highway Patrol to monitor. Being a highly traveled holiday, the Van Wert Post looks to increase its uniform presence in order to handle the surplus of commuters.

While it is a time of celebration, the Commander of the Van Wert Patrol Post, Lieutenant Tim Grigsby, urges those enjoying the festivities to have a plan in place before they head out. Grigsby says, “We’re really looking to make an impact and keep that fatal crash and injury crash picture down.”  He explains, “2016 was an especially deadly year for the Van Wert and Paulding area, so we’ve tried to alter the way we do things a little bit … and so far its been working.”
