A four-legged hero has fallen in the village of Waynesfield. The Waynesfield Police Department had to put down their K9 earlier this month due to medical complications. Tuesday afternoon they held a ceremony with other local agencies and their K9's to recognize what Yukon did to help protect the town. Since Yukon joined the department in 2011, his partner says he made a positive impact on several communities.
"It was an amazing experience. I had never been a K9 handler prior to having him, so I didn't really know what to expect and to see the impact he had not only on the Waynesfield community, but on this region. Because we would go anywhere we were called, and it was just really neat to see the impact he had on surrounding communities. When they saw our cruiser with the K9 emblem on the side, they knew we were there for business," Wanyesfield Chief of Police, Nathan Motter, said.
He says they will soon be setting up a fundraising campaign on the Waynesfield PD Facebook to help raise money for a new K9 unit. They will need anywhere between 10-15 thousand dollars.
