Chances are you may have encountered more work zones than normal on Ohio roads this winter due to the mild weather and lack of snow. The Ohio Department of Transportation says Mother Nature normally keeps crews busy with snow and ice removal, but those days have been largely non-existent this winter. The warm weather means less pressure on the highway department's operating expenses.
On Veterans Day at 11 a.m., on the corner of Chestnut and Spring Streets, there will be a ceremony to dedicate the new monument. The Ohio National Guard left Saint Marys in 2020, and a resident came up with the idea to create a monument for the citizen soldiers who were there. City administrators liked the idea and they decided to build it in Memorial Park facing the old armory used by the guardsmen.
It is a program that has been helping clients of Allen County Children Services for years. The un-garage sale is a chance for those that the agency assists to come in and get clothing and housewares for free. The items are all donated and the program has grown over the years.

The Lima City Schools will be celebrating the welcoming of students back into the classroom with their "Back to School Celebration" next Tuesday. Students from all across the region can pick up free school supplies and families can enjoy a picnic meal. School administrators say the celebration is much more than just going back to school.
According to the administrator for the Allen County Juvenile Court, around 4 o'clock on Monday, two residents of the juvenile detention center attempted to escape custody. One was a male 14-year-old who was being held on a non-violent offense - he was able to escape custody. The other, a 17-year-old, was not able to leave the facility.
A resident came up with the idea to create a monument for the citizen-soldiers who were based in St. Marys. City administrators liked the idea, and they decided to build one in Memorial Park facing the old armory that the guardsmen used. The history of the St. Marys National Guard unit goes back to 1877 when they were formed.
A total of 22 volunteers from several local churches along with Elida High School students offered sewing skills to create and install over 200 custom-made blinds over every classroom door in the district. The sewing volunteer coordinator for the project, Mary Early, tells us how the design came together.

It’s a place where anyone that has an idea can hone their craft and possibly launch it into a career. The students also heard from local entrepreneurs that have found what they love to do and have taken that to the next level of opening their own business. The young adults soaked in all the information that the mentors were giving.
