Firefighters from the Lima Fire Department rushed to a residential house fire in the 900 block of Richie Avenue at around 1:45 Tuesday afternoon. Upon arrival, fire crews encountered heavy fire and smoke venting from the house and subsequently raised a second alarm with a mutual aid response from American Township. Firefighters went inside the house and quickly controlled the fire, but unfortunately, they did find two pets deceased from the blaze. There were not any injuries to the residents nor any firefighters on the scene, but Lima Battalion Chief Brad Miller says the extreme heat makes battling these fires more challenging.
