It is becoming a downtown Lima tradition, and it's time to take the annual "Artwalk." ArtSpace/Lima and Downtown Lima Inc. will be hosting the 2024 Artwalk next Thursday, where local artists will be showcasing their work in local businesses. It is a combination art show and business open house to bring people into the heart of the city to explore.

Budding artiest got some supplies to create a piece of art that will be on display during an art walk in September.  For this months to-go bag,  ArtSpace Lima teamed up with Mercy Health to provide a watercolor paint set, brush, and paper to paint their surroundings.   The completed work then can be returned to ArtSpace to be part of the art walk this fall.    The to-go art projects giveaways has been going on since March of 2020, as a way to give kids a creative outlet during past couple of years and continues to gain support from the whole community.  If you were not able to come by and get a to-go bag with the watercolor art kit contact ArtSpace Lima to see if they have any extra available.  The watercolor art work is due by September 1st to be part of the art walk. The entries will be judged and ribbons and cash prizes will be awarded to some of the pieces picked.

Residents and visitors of Auglaize County will notice some new artwork in Downtown Wapakoneta. First on the Moon celebrated the revealing of an out-of-this-world sculpture at Park Platz in Wapak on Friday. The sculpture included a very large astronaut helmet constructed from aluminum and stainless steel. Additionally, engraved granite with the signatures from all the four frogmen who retrieved the Apollo 11 members from the ocean, once they returned to Earth, was crafted and placed beside the new sculpture.

Floyd Cooper and Jerry Pinkney's works are on display in the Freed Galleria, and the exhibit includes images from Cooper's "Juneteenth for Mazie" and Pinkney's "Ain't Nobody a Stranger to Me." Juneteenth marks the day when federal troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, in 1865, to make sure that all enslaved people are freed. The Mazza Museum is holding a special event this Friday to mark the longest-running African-American holiday.

Artspace Executive Director Sally Windle explains, “This is for all artists. This is one of those things that brings in all the mediums, lots of different people enter this and it’s pretty big for us because this is our 70th year. So actually, the show is older that ArtSpace or the Art Association is. It’s always attracted a really diverse crowd of artists and mediums.”
