LIMA, OH (WLIO) - Students from three schools competed in an art contest, using their creativity to show Lima what compassion means to them. The Lima Host Lions Club announced the winners of their Peace Poster Artists Contest. Fifteen students from Elida, Spencerville, and Lima North Middle schools entered their artwork, and three were recognized in a reception at ArtSpace Lima. All entries are currently on display in their gallery. The theme this year was “peace and compassion.”
“It’s a vague concept so they have to think through, how do they show those ideas of compassion in the world? And how do you put that into a visual form?” Said Corinne Piper, President of the Lima Host Lions Club.
Two of the contest winners chose to represent in their work the idea of compassion in the face of difficulty.
“It’s the girl protecting the Earth from all the badness that can happen, and she’s saving it from the badness.” Says Lily Rice of Elida Middle School.
“So I painted, resembling all of the hate in the world, and how art can resemble that hate, and cover it up.” Sierra Wheeler, also of Elida Middle School, said of her artwork.
Contest winners were chosen by an online vote. The Lima Host Lions Club also had a writing contest for visually students.
