Established in 1953 as the Lima and Allen County Clinic, the center has undergone several name changes before officially becoming the Lima Children’s Developmental Center in 1996. It remains the only private, non-profit early intervention and preschool program for special needs children in Allen County.

Teen volunteers from local high schools presented boxes full of school supplies for the Childrens Developmental Center at Lima Memorial Hospital. This year's theme was all about the ocean. The boxes were filled with essential school supplies, which include arts and craft materials, and snack items. Volunteers collected donations over a three week period, gathering 200 or more supplies. Nicholas Chambers, a student from Lima Central Catholic spoke about the importance of volunteering for your community.
The Lima Rotary Club also lent a helping hand to local organizations by awarding some grant money. The club gave out three checks Monday afternoon.
People were on a roll Saturday afternoon as they helped raised money for the Children's Developmental Center.
Close to 200 people participated in the organizations bowl-a-thon at 20th Century Lanes. Friends and families not only bowled several rounds, but they also participated in dozens of different raffles.
A little spring shopping is benefiting children with developmental disabilities.
The Lima Elks Lodge #54 made a sizable donation to the Lima Memorial Children's Developmental Center and Mercy Health St. Rita's.
