LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) - Kids from the Children's Developmental Center of Lima getting to celebrate the school year coming to an end.

Tuesday was the last day of school, so they held their annual Party in the Park on Wednesday. The kids and their families came out to Lincoln Park to enjoy the weather while playing on the playground, face painting and arts and crafts as well as free pizza and cookies and drinks.

The Children's Developmental Center of Lima is a preschool for children with special needs from 18 months to Kindergarten, and school staff say seeing the joy on the kids faces makes it a bittersweet goodbye for the summer.

"Our program has a strong family atmosphere, so we get connected and really attached to not just the children, but the family," said Elisha Reinke, executive director of the Children's Developmental Center of Lima. "We've been doing this for three years now, and it's just a really nice way to kind of close out the year and have some fun time together, enjoying some outdoor activities and just visiting with each other and talking about the summer. It's a way to say goodbye for the year. Some of them will be coming back, and some of them will be moving on to Kindergarten, so we like to have a last couple of moments with them."

The Children's Developmental Center of Lima will begin their 2025 fall classes the week of Labor Day.
