“Now, with GPS and phones being a lot more accurate, it'll give us a lot more accurate location of that phone call, which will either give a better representation of where that call came from to first responders, but it also helps route that to the proper public safety answering point, be it Allen County Sheriff's Office or the Lima Police Department,” said Jared Gesler, Allen County EMA director and 9-1-1 coordinator.
This is not the first attempt to annex the land. An expedited annexation request was brought before Delphos City Council in May, drawing significant public interest. While the city supported the move, Marion Township Trustees opposed the expedited portion of the request. As a result, the property owners are now pursuing a standard annexation process, which requires a public hearing.
"Any of our veterans that are waiting for their appointments or their rides to appointments, they now will have a place to get in out of the weather," said Allen County Commissioner Brian Winegardner. "There will be a bathroom in there, lobby, office area, storage and so on. So I think it will be a good fit for what our veterans need."
The new administration building marks the first phase of a broader effort to reconfigure the locations of county offices and courtrooms. Once county departments have moved into the new facility, interior renovations to the historic courthouse will begin. Those upgrades will allow all county courts to be consolidated into one location.
The levy will provide funding to maintain and support services and facilities for the elderly in the county. It specifically benefits programs operated by the Allen County Council on Aging, Senior Citizen Services of Allen County, the Senior Citizens Association of Bluffton, and Delphos Senior Citizens.
During a meeting Tuesday morning, commissioners passed a resolution to create a Community Reinvestment Area (CRA) encompassing approximately 345 acres. Officials say the designated area is smaller than what was initially proposed.
The Mental Health and Recovery Services Board recently received "One Ohio" funds to support two programs designed to assist individuals struggling with opioid addiction. Commissioners have allocated just over $50,000 to the Allen-Auglaize County Peer Center, operated by Lighthouse Behavioral Health Solutions, and to a dedicated intervention specialist for the juvenile court system.
