ALLEN COUNTY, OH (WLIO) - The Allen County commissioners are considering a process to designate a specific area of land as a viable location for development.

Allen County Commissioners Exploring First Community Reinvestment Area

The proposed section of land is located on North Cole Street, just north of Bluelick Road, in an unincorporated area of the county that is considered prime for development.

The initiative, known as a "Community Reinvestment Area" (CRA), is a widely used tool in economic development. The proposed section of land is located on North Cole Street, just north of Bluelick Road, in an unincorporated area of the county that is considered prime for development. This process can expedite development by establishing incentives in advance.

“This provides a duration of time that parcel or that ground or that area is eligible, but again, it's not a blanket percentage,” said County Commissioner Cory Noonan. “They will have to come to the Board of Commissioners, and that will need to be adopted on a case-by-case basis.”

The county must submit a petition to the Ohio Department of Development for confirmation of the geographical area to become a CRA. There has been interest from a data center in potentially developing in that area. Noonan said the potential development of a CRA is a strong example of the public and private sectors working together for the betterment of Allen County and its business development.
