The crash occurred off the southbound exit ramp to county Road 25A and Interstate 75. A 1998 Freightliner tractor-trailer combination was driving south in the right lane when the vehicle drove off the right side of the roadway, down the ramp and overturned onto county Road 25A. The tractor-trailer combination was hauling steel coils which came loose and were damaged as a result of the crash.
Sheriff's deputies responded to the intersection of County Road M and County Road 5 just after 2 p.m. They say 35-year-old Jose' Castaneda of Texas was westbound on Road M when he failed to yield to a Dodge van headed southbound on Road 5; driven by 79-year-old Mary Kistler of Ottawa. Castaneda, Kistler, and a juvenile passenger in Kistler's vehicle were all taken to the hospital with unknown injuries. Both vehicles were heavily damaged and towed from the scene.
Mercer County Sheriff Jeff Grey reports that his office received a 911 call at 8:12 AM on Sunday morning advising of traffic crash on County Road 219A. The investigation revealed that 57 year old Louis B Badgett Jr of 5480 Club Island Road Celina, Ohio was driving his 2002 Chevrolet eastbound on County Road 219A just east of Dicke Road. Badgett traveled off of the right side of the roadway, down into the ditch and out into the field.
First responders were called out to the intersection of County Roads 75 and 30 just before 6 p.m. There they found a car off the road fully engulfed in flames and were unable reach the people inside because of the blaze. The identities of the two people will not be released until they are positively identified. The crash is being investigated by the Bureau of Criminal Investigation and the Hardin County Sheriff's Deputies.
The sheriff issues these snow emergencies that range from level 1 to level 3. Level 1 means that roadways are hazardous with blowing and drifting snow, or icy and motorists should drive cautiously. Level 2 snow emergencies are hazardous roadways that could be very icy and slippery, and only those who feel it is necessary to drive should be on the roads. Level 3 is when all roadways are closed to non-emergency personnel, and no one should be driving unless it is an emergency. The sheriff would like to remind motorists to slow down when roads get bad.
The Putnam County Sheriff’s office is investigating an injury crash that occurred when eighty-one-year-old John Smith of Fort Jennings was traveling northbound on County Road 24 and failed to stop for the stop sign at County Road N. His vehicle was struck by another vehicle which was being driven by forty-six-year-old Brian Wenzlick of Cloverdale. Mr. Smith was transported to Lima Memorial Hospital by the Ottoville EMS with unknown injuries.
On Monday afternoon, 31 year old Cindel Fenter of Defiance was southbound on County Road 22 driving a 1999 GMC Suburban. Fenter drove off the right side of the roadway, came back on the roadway and drove off the left side of the road, striking a ditch and flipping the car, ejecting her.
The orange barrels along I-75 in Findlay will slowly become a thing of the past, as the $114 million dollar project is in its final weeks. Early Monday (August 17th) morning, motorist will be able to take the new ramps that connects State Routes 68 and 15 to I-75. This is the final large piece of the construction puzzle the Ohio Department of Transportation began 4 years ago A five mile stretch interstate between county road 99 and Harrison Street will be three lanes and the on and off ramps have been redesigned to make travel safer.
A Dodge Ram was westbound on 216 when it struck a Hyundai Accent that failed to stop at the sign while traveling north on 243. The driver of the Hyundai, Kevin Bibbs Jr, 28, and passenger, Chloe Decker, 24, both of Findlay, were cut out and Life Flighted to St. V’s Hospital in Toledo. The driver of the Dodge, Christopher Knisley, 65 of Fostoria, was transported by EMS to Fostoria Hospital.
