A Celina man was found dead in a single-vehicle crash in rural Mercer County.
According to Sheriff Jeff Grey, deputies were called out to County Road 219A, just east of Dicke Road just after 8 a.m. Sunday morning, where they found a wrecked car was found in a field. There they found 57-year-old Louis Badgett Jr. dead from his injuries. Deputies believe Badgett's vehicle traveled off the right side of the road, rolled into a ditch, and then rolled into the field. Because of the location of the vehicle, no one noticed it for several hours. This is the fourth fatal vehicle accident in Mercer County this year.
5/8/22 5:41 PM - Press Release from the Mercer County Sheriff's Office: Mercer County Sheriff Jeff Grey reports that his office received a 911 call at 8:12 AM on Sunday morning advising of traffic crash on County Road 219A. The investigation revealed that 57 year old Louis B Badgett Jr of 5480 Club Island Road Celina, Ohio was driving his 2002 Chevrolet eastbound on County Road 219A just east of Dicke Road. Badgett traveled off of the right side of the roadway, down into the ditch and out into the field. The vehicle rolled multiple times before coming to rest on its top. Badgett was pronounced deceased at the scene. It appeared the crash likely occurred several hours before anyone reported it. Grey advised that due to the location of the crash, the vehicle’s final resting place and the darkness, it would have been hard for anyone to see the vehicle in the field over night. Â
Assisting the deputies at the scene were the Montezuma Fire Department, Mercer County Emergency Response Volunteers (MCERV) and Coldwater EMS.Â
This marks the fourth (4) fatal traffic crash in Mercer County this year.
