October 30, 2024, Press Release from Bowling Green State University: BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – Following a highly competitive selection process, 15 Bowling Green State University students were recently chosen for a prestigious fellowship that combines leadership development with public good. The students were selected for the semester-long Millennium Fellowship, a world-class leadership program launched by the United Nations Academic Impact and Millennium Campus Network focused on creating global impact through service. The students are members of the Sidney A. Ribeau President’s Leadership Academy’s 2023 cohort.
They have locations around the county to provide free, comprehensive programming for children and their families and are currently taking applications. Allen County Head Start and Early Head Start are programs under the West Ohio Community Action Partnership that work with children from birth to 5 years of age to get them ready for school. The program is for low-income families to provide social, emotional, and intellectual growth to their children. They not only work in the classroom but also offer home visits to provide support in parenting skills.
July 11, 2024, Press Release from the Ohio Department of Public Safety: (COLUMBUS, Ohio) – The Ohio Traffic Safety Office (OTSO), a division of The Ohio Department of Public Safety, announced today new educational resources are now available for diverse communities in Ohio to help English Language Learners become licensed drivers. The curriculum and train-the-trainer program is intended to help non-English speakers learn safe driving practices and prepare for the written and driving tests at the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV). It includes information on the requirements for obtaining a driver license in Ohio, the meanings of traffic signs and signals, and other basic traffic safety laws.
Heir Force Community School unveils a bright new future, with new buildings and opportunities on the way. That new chapter for Heir Force Community School begins this summer, as they are moving out of buildings owned by Cornerstone Church and into their own space. Heir Force has bought the building at 799 North Main Street and will be turning that into a kindergarten through fourth grade building. The renovations of this new space will begin this school year.
On Tuesday, Liberty Arts Magnet School teachers and students had the opportunity to showcase their work and accomplishments to the community. The school hosted its Arts Integration Spotlight where students had the chance to present their arts integration projects and displays throughout the school.
Because of the pandemic, pharmacists began having to perform duties usually carried out at your family doctor's office. Realizing this made health care more accessible, many colleges and universities are changing their curriculums including the University of Findlay pharmacy program, who is altering its teaching to prepare students for the new responsibilities of pharmacy.
In partnership with Procter & Gamble, Heir Force Community provides its students with a hands-on learning experience building digital multi-meters alongside local engineers. During the workshop, students were able to take their curriculum outside of the classroom and gain insight into the world of engineering.
Lima City Schools Math Curriculum Team Leader Cathy Collins has been selected for the 2022 Ohio Council of Teachers of Mathematics Linda M. Gojak Middle School Award. The Ohio Council of Teachers of Mathematics (OCTM) consists of 3,000 members. Affiliated with the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, OCTM has been in existence since 1951.
Delphos Jefferson High is being awarded with a Career Choices Silver Medal for promoting student success with the Career Choices series curriculum and My10yearPlan.com. The school’s Career Choices program helps students create online 10-year plans for their future education and career goals. The program, which is administered in a class for freshmen at Delphos Jefferson High, is meaningful because it helps students discover what they want and how to get it, said Karissa Hoerston, a teacher at Delphos Jefferson High.
Student in Putnam County got to show off all their artistic talent at the return of the art festival. There were around 900 pieces for the juried art show and over 100 musicians and singers from all Putnam County Schools performing together for the first time in the concert. The Arts Festival is sponsored by the Putnam County Educational Service Center and it was last held in person 2020, just days before everything stopped because of the pandemic. Last year it was reduced to just a virtual art show, and no music. But now everyone is back together, which is a good thing for students.
