Allen County Head Start and Early Head Start are programs under the West Ohio Community Action Partnership that work with children from birth to 5 years of age to get them ready for school.
ALLEN COUNTY, OH (WLIO) - They have locations around the county to provide free, comprehensive programming for children and their families and are currently taking applications.
Allen County Head Start and Early Head Start are programs under the West Ohio Community Action Partnership that work with children from birth to 5 years of age to get them ready for school. The program is for low-income families to provide social, emotional, and intellectual growth for their children. They not only work in the classroom but also offer home visits to provide support for parenting skills.

"We have a home-based program where staff go to the homes and they work one-on-one with the family. They're using that home as that learning environment. We use a curriculum that's called parents as teachers. So the staff are trained on how to use that curriculum, and they're really teaching those parents to advocate for their child, to work for their child. To embed those early learning skills," said Phyllis Montrose, child development services director.
