LIMA, OH (WLIO) - Those who work for the City of Lima are doing their very best to ensure you and your family have food on Christmas day.
Hundreds of people gathered in Wapakoneta for an annual Christmas dinner. The 29th Miracle Meal Christmas Dinner was served Monday night inside the Auglaize County Junior Fair Building with around 350 people coming together for a meal. A Christmas present was also given to every child from birth to 18-years old along with a local pastor delivering the message of Christmas. There was also plenty of Christmas caroling and even raffle drawings throughout the evening. The meal is free for everyone and gives all a chance to enjoy a moment this Christmas season without the financial stress.
Habitat for Humanity Lima Area hosted their annual appreciation dinner Tuesday evening. Habitat for Humanity prepared the meal for board and committee members, ReStore staff, volunteers, and sponsors inside the City Club in Downtown Lima. The dinner, along with raffle drawings, is Habitat's way of expressing gratitude for the hard work completed by all in fulfilling area housing projects. Before dinner, we talked with Executive Director, Bruce Hilty, about why this event is so important.
Thanksgiving meals are getting cheaper. According to the American Farm Bureau Federation, the popular holiday dinner that centers around turkey has an average cost of 58 dollars for a feast of 10 people.
Lima City Councilman Derry Glenn provided people with warm Thanksgiving meals for the 17th year. Lima Towers residents and others who attended were served a free Thanksgiving dinner. They also held a raffle to give people the chance to win prizes. Glenn says the smiles he sees is what makes this event so good, and everyone involved is always eager for this time of year to come again.
He is calling it a "Trifecta of Republican Politics" that will be highlighting the Allen County Republican Party barbecue. Allen County Republican chair Keith Cheney announced Thursday that Florida Governor Ron Desantis, entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, and United States Senate candidate Bernie Moreno will be the speakers at the barbecue rally. Both Desantis and Ramaswamy dropped out of the presidential race early to support Trump, and Cheney says it's fortunate that we could get all three of them to attend.

This upcoming Sunday marks Lima's annual "I Have Dream" Awards Dinner. For over 40 years the City of Lima has celebrated local activists for their dedication to inspiring change as well as keeping our neighborhoods strong. This year's awards will be held at the Bradfield Community Center (550 S Collett St, Lima, OH 45805) at 5 p.m.
