The 2025 Community Thanksgiving Meal, hosted by Compassionate Ministries of Lima, returns Thursday at the Veterans Memorial Civic Center, continuing a decades-long tradition of welcoming anyone seeking food and fellowship.
"Every month we put out 1,500 of these senior boxes throughout our service area, and we brought enough today in the time that we have available with Rotarians to pack at least 300 of those. So each day, we're consistently packing those boxes just to make sure that seniors have food on their tables," said Tommie Harner, CEO of the West Ohio Food Bank.
The students spent their time packing senior boxes at the West Ohio Food Bank. Each student was responsible for packing specific food items, such as cereal, canned vegetables, and shelf-stable milk. The hands-on service project provided the students with an understanding of how their efforts would impact those in need.
Food boxes containing all the side fixings and the ham for Easter dinner are being distributed to approximately 300 families in the area. Those being served had to pre-register for the food boxes and Salvation Army representatives say they are doing all they can to help people, especially during the pandemic.
The event offered a free meal, food boxes, and clothes for anyone in need. The goal of these events was to bring people together in their neighborhoods after a year of going through the pandemic.
