The Johnny Appleseed Park District is hosting "Rock On," a geology camp for kids ages 7 to 9.
Calling on all fossil and rock enthusiasts out there. Beginning Thursday, November 21, 2024, from noon to 2 p.m., the Ohio State University at Lima campus will be unveiling its new interactive geology museum exhibit in its life and physical science building! The exhibit contains a variety of specimens ranging from rare fossils to minerals and crystals that can be found right here in the Buckeye State. The museum has multiple QR codes that can teach you all about the fossils and minerals on display.
Local nature enthusiasts had the chance to learn more about the natural history of Allen County! The Johnny Appleseed Metropolitan Park District was at the Lima Public Library talking about past landscape in the county. The park district talked about remnants of bedrock and limestone deposits underground along with glacial traces left behind. They also discussed how these things altered the soil and how that affected plant, animal, and human life throughout the county.

Housed in the department of health sciences, natural sciences and mathematics, the program will provide students a broader understanding of the natural and built worlds around them through classes in biology, chemistry, geology, and soil, water and climate sciences.
The Ohio Natural Energy Foundation is now accepting applications for the 2024 scholarship program. This program has awarded nearly 650 scholarships since 2007. This $640,000 investment has assisted young Ohioans interested in pursuing careers in the natural gas and oil industry get an education. Students can receive the $1,000 scholarship for a total of four years upon renewal. Applications are being accepted through March 1. Scholarships are awarded to Ohio students interested in careers such as petroleum engineer, finance, equipment operator, mechanical engineer, welder and many more. The scholarships can be used to attend an accredited college, university, technical or trade school and requires the student to maintain a grade point average of 2.5 or higher.

The proposed natural gas aggregation program for the City of Lima will not appear on the November 7th ballot but will be revisited over the coming months.
"Kids can come in here, and they can touch all the fossils. Most of them, and we can teach them about the Different fossils and what they mean and how to speak sort of when you have traced fossils. We can teach you about that. We also have a full-grown Velociraptor here." explains entertainer Eric Teas.
