New geology exhibit coming to Ohio State Lima

The Ohio State University at Lima campus will be unveiling its new interactive geology museum exhibit in its Life and Physical Sciences Building.

The exhibit contains a variety of specimens ranging from rare fossils to minerals and crystals that can be found right here in the Buckeye State. The museum has multiple QR codes that can teach you all about the fossils and minerals on display.

Associate Dean Mark Kleffner, who curated the museum himself along with help from the Orton and Geology Museum in Columbus, Ohio, says the museum exhibit can help illuminate the environment in the past to help us better see the future.

"Fossils are a really great resource right now because they tell us what life was like in the past, and we're really concerned about changes in climate and what's going to happen in the future. Well, we've been through a lot of those climate changes in the past, and you can document those by the changes in life over time because they adjust in the past to changes in climate just like they're adjusting today. So the more we know about how things changed in the past, the more we can prepare for what might happen in the future. In that regard, fossils are really important, and they're also a finite resource. I mean, there's only a certain number of them, and so it's really good that we can get them out here and get people an opportunity to see them and see the variety of things that used to live on the Earth," said Mark Kleffner, associate dean/professor, School of Earth Sciences at Ohio State Lima.
