A Hancock County jury convicted A Texas man 2017 Findlay murder. Eric Reed was found guilty of aggravated murder and weapons charges for the death of 42-year-old Brian McQuistion in November of 2017.
A Findlay man has been charged with attempted murder for allegedly severely beating a woman last month. 42-year-old Brandon Treece was indicted by a Hancock County Grand Jury on the charges of attempted murder and felonious assault. According to the police incident report, officers responded to an assault call on November 18th, where a woman came to the door with injuries to her face. She was taken to the hospital. She named Treece as the person that hurt her and he may have a machete. Officers arrested Treece at another residence. He is currently in the Hancock County Jail.
A Hancock County judge has sentenced Michigan man to over two decades in prison for shooting a Findlay trooper during a traffic stop in the fall of 2021. 43-year-old Robert Hathorn will serve a minimum of 26 to a maximum of 31 years in prison for the six charges he was found guilty of during a trial in June. Some of the charges include felonious assault of a peace officer, aggravated robbery, and tampering with evidence.
No trial date has been set for the three men charged with the death of Officer Dominic Francis. Emin Johnson, Zachary Love, and Dante Tate are all in jail awaiting their next court appearance. A list of evidence was filed with the Hancock Common Pleas Court that could be used during their trial. Some of the evidence includes DNA testing of the two vehicles, including the steering wheel, that were used during the crime. There is also DNA testing from the weapons that were found after their arrest. Plus, a toxicology report for Johnson who law enforcement believe was driving when Francis was struck and killed while he was deploying a stop stick on I-75 during a police chase. They are all facing a variety of charges some including improper handling of firearms in a vehicle and receiving stolen property. Johnson is facing additional charges of involuntary manslaughter and aggravated vehicular homicide.
The trial for 43-year-old Robert Hathorn is scheduled to start on June 6th in Hancock County Common Pleas Court. He has also requested that he represent himself in the trial, even though the judge was against that decision. Hathorn was indicted on charges including felonious assault, aggravated robbery, failure to comply with police officer, tampering with evidence, and two counts of having weapons under disability.

52-year-old Ronald Dean Lauck had his case heard by a judge after he waived his right to a jury trial. Lauck was indicted on the charges of felonious assault and intimidation, both with gun specifications. According to court records and law enforcement, Lauck fired a shotgun at a Hancock County deputy, who was responding to a domestic violence call involving his son. Gunfire was exchanged before law enforcement was able to arrest Lauck. No one was injured in the incident. The trial is expected to wrap up on Tuesday.
42-year-old Robert Hathorn's trial was set to begin on Jan. 31st, but this week he fired his attorney. The judge has around two weeks to find another attorney. Hathorn is charged with felonious assault of a police officer, aggravated robbery, and four other felony charges. Law enforcement says that Hathorn was pulled over by Trooper Josef Brobst on October 6th. The two men struggled for Brobst's firearm. The weapon went off, striking Brobst and Hathorn went on the run. A manhunt went on for 12 hours before he was captured by law enforcement. No new trial date has been set in his case.
