There was an early morning pep rally on Friday as the United Way of Greater Lima kicked off its annual Day of Giving. More than 300 volunteers gathering to get ready for a day of work helping 20 partner agencies. Volunteers cheered, participated in quirky challenges, and heard testimony on the importance of the United Way in people's lives.

The Lima Rotary Club continues to get closer to their donations goal for the community stage and green space project. Three more organizations announced donations to the rotary clubs amphitheater project. Tuttle Construction has pledged $25,000 while HCF Management and Your Hometown Stations each donated $10,000. With the new $45,000, the club president says they sit near $800,000 raised out of their $2.2 million goal. Construction on the land between Spring and Elm streets began in September and grass has already been planted.

Getting older has its difficulties and one local nursing care provider wants to make some of the transitions a little easier. HCF Management is offering a variety of seminars pertaining to your changing needs as you age. Anything from heart health, to dementia, to finances. These classes are free and open to the public and several of HCF managed nursing facilities. Company officials say it's their way to give back to the community.

Several area schools helping to provide food to local non-profits as part of a yearly "Food Fight" competition. A check representing more than 2,200 cans of food was presented Monday by Lima Temple Christian School. They are the winner of the HCF Management sponsored "Food Fight" event. It pits schools against each other to see who can collect the most food and monetary donations to help others. Temple Christian took the class versus class approach to collect cans.
