After a year of debate and court cases regarding redistricting in Ohio, August 2nd ended up being a primary election day in Ohio. There are a few statehouse primaries on the ballot in area counties. The Republican primary for the 78th House district has Susan Manchester as a candidate. She was an incumbent in the former 84th district, but is now a resident of the 78th district, because of redistricting.

Food bank and state legislative officials walked through the West Ohio Food Bank in Lima for a tour Friday morning. They got the chance to see first-hand how operations are run, and how the food banks have been performing in overdrive since the pandemic hit. Speaker of the Ohio House Bob Cupp, along with House representative Jon Cross were among the crowd of people to tour the distribution center. They got the opportunity to see every step of the process, even what an actual distribution looks like.

Senate Bill 311 inches closer to becoming a law after passing the Ohio House on Thursday. The bill narrowly passed through the Senate in September.

State Sen. Rob McColley introduced the bill after Stay-at-Home orders were issued at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Ohio health director would not be able to issue a regional or statewide quarantine to people unless they have been directly exposed to an infectious disease or have been diagnosed with one.

An Ohio bill that would prevent any business from another shut down, could be voted on this week.

Rep. Jon Cross has brought House Bill 621 back to the forefront of legislators minds. Despite a health order closing businesses, this bill would allow any business to stay open as long as they comply with the safety precautions outlined in the order. Cross says he doesn't like Gov. Mike DeWine making such orders and wants him to work with the General Assembly. At this point in the pandemic, cross doesn't think any more can be done to control the spread of the Coronavirus.

Ohio remains vigilant in passing laws to help flatten the curve during the pandemic, and State Representative Jon Cross says they will continue those efforts as well as looking into legislation that will aid the state in recovery. 

At the end of March,  state lawmakers returned to Columbus  to present a wide ranging bill to Governor DeWine to deal with the negative impacts the Coronavirus is having on Ohioans.
