Shawnee Local Schools Superintendent Jude Meyers states that a shortage in bus drivers has caused a temporary shut down of one bus route, and so far, only one route out of their 23 buses has been affected. This has caused the district to ask parents to look for other means of transportation as they address the issue.

The free school meals program was first instituted in response to the COVID-19 pandemic in order to help families struggling financially and to ensure that as many students get a meal at school. However, the Lima City School District meets requirements under the community eligibility program that provides free breakfast and lunch to students that started in 2014, and the district has successfully reapplied for the program.

Jude Meyers was indicted by a Gallia County Grand Jury on the 13 counts of having an interest in a public contract, which are all fourth-degree felonies, and one count each of theft in office and a conflict of interest, which are fifth-degree felonies and a 1st misdemeanor respectively. Meyers pleaded not guilty to the charges Monday in Gallia County.

The Shawnee School District Superintendent Jude Meyers was the guest speaker at the February meeting for the Optimists. Meyers spoke on a wide range of topics concerning the school. One topic was the current condition of the school's facilities, with a review board set to submit a review to the school district.

The board met, and officially hired Jude Meyers as the district’s new superintendent. Meyers has 38 years of experience in education. He has been the superintendent at Gallia County schools since 2014 and before that was superintendent for 4 years at Old Fort Schools in Seneca County. Meyers expressed that one of the reasons he took the job was to be closer to family and is also looking forward to making connections throughout the community as the school year approaches.

Meyers has worked for 38 years in education. He’s held administrative roles at various levels in multiple schools in northern Ohio. He has been the superintendent of Gallia County schools since 2014. Before that, he was superintendent for 4 years at old fort schools in Seneca County. He will be hired officially at the next meeting of the Shawnee board. He is expected to begin working on August 1st.
