October 9, 2024, Press Release from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources: COLUMBUS, Ohio – The fall colors seem to be taking its time this year, however glimpses and patches of vibrant reds, oranges, and yellows are becoming more and more common, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR). Starting Monday, November 14th crews will begin in the first, fourth, fifth, and sixth wards in collecting leaves. Residents are asked to rake them to the tree lawn and not in the street and are asked to remove any sticks or debris from the piles and not to smash the leaves down.

The City of Findlay will be picking up leaves from November 14, 2022, through December 2, 2022. City employees will collect leaves that have been placed in biodegradable PAPER bags at the curb. Plastic bags and loose leaves will not be picked up. Bagged leaves are to be placed by the curb. Biodegradable bags are readily available at local hardware, building supply, and some grocery stores. Raking leaves into the street has many negative aspects. Leaf piles in the street can be a dangerous temptation to children who like to play in the piles and in many areas reduce the traffic to one lane or cause drivers to drive around the piles into oncoming traffic.
The temperatures are falling and the leaves are starting to change. We talked with the experts to learn about the science behind it and when those colors should peak this year.
