LIMA, OH (WLIO) - The past week with the rain and winds have brought the leaves down and the City of Lima is gearing up to start their annual leaf pickup program.
Starting Monday, November 14th crews will begin in the first, fourth, fifth, and sixth wards collecting leaves. Residents are asked to rake them to the tree lawn and not in the street. They are also asked to please remove any sticks or debris from the piles and not to smash the leaves down.
"Take the things out of the leaves because number one they can damage our equipment and shut us down, we won't be able to pick the leaves up. Also, you know it's just cars riding over the leaves, it breaks them down. It makes them harder for us to get our job done," explained Warner Roach, deputy public works director.
Roach says if you don't want to wait on the crews, you can get bags at the city garage on Collett Street, bag them, and set them out with your regular trash. Any large limbs and sticks can be taken to the compost facility on Hanthorn Road. They will make it known when the remaining wards will be up for leaf collection.
