Unity Elementary is offering a "Parent Academy" to offer advice on teaching lessons that parents and children can do together at home. Like using shaving cream to practice letters and writing, playdough to make shapes and practice counting, and magnetic letters on a cookie tray to learn to spell. The parent was given a stocking full of learning tools for each of their students to take home.

Members of the argumentation and advocacy class presented a debate to their fellow students on the topic of "Gun violence in America and the assault weapons ban." The students were divided into two groups and assigned to argue for and against the issue of a federal assault weapons ban. With social media, there is no shortage of opinions about topical issues, but the class challenges them to debate the facts, without personal feelings on the issue.

That’s what the students at Bluffton University found out about today from 2010 graduate, comedian, and author Andrea Flack-Wetherald. She wanted the students to understand that good things are still possible, but people who are empathic to critical issues can get overwhelmed by the state of the world today. Flack-Wetherald says the improv way is to support your scene partner, by listening to them and possibly pivoting to what they have said.

Fourth-grade students get to hear about the "GOOD" program from the man who created it. Ron Derry was a teacher and coach at a high school in central Ohio and then he lost his sight due to retinopathy. He decided not to be defeated and continued educating children as a speaker encouraging children that even though life can be tough, they have the ability to make a bad situation into a good situation.

4-H is more than ribbons and awards, and Katie Honigford finds out that it is about friendships, self-improvement, and going above and beyond to promote the agriculture industry. Gracie Casebolt has been competing for 8 years at the fair and she has taken her talents nationwide to win top honors at other competitions. She will be joining the Texas A & M division one equestrian team this fall. But coming back to the fair is always something special to her.

Putnam County seniors are just a few months away from graduation, but they got a taste of what the real world is like today.
