Shoppers can browse a wide selection of items, including children’s books, adult hardcovers and paperbacks, CDs, and DVDs. The sale is open to the public and serves as more than just a bargain opportunity—it’s also a way to connect with the community.
“We're still fighting the battle of screens, whether that be a phone, tablet or a computer,” said Fred Miller Jr., president of the Wapakoneta Breakfast Optimist Club. “So we're trying to encourage the kids to stay involved in reading books. We know how much reading is a part of their education. Also, working at the library, we encourage those kids to come up and stop at the local library and also get books for the Summer Reading Challenge.”
FINDLAY, OH (WLIO) - Sunday was a big day for the Findlay-Hancock County Public Library, celebrating 135 years of service to county residents.
It was all about the "cold" at the Lima Public Library today. The youth services department held its first baby-toddler story time of 2025, learning all about cold weather friends from polar bears to narwhals. The library offers programs like this to help children discover early literacy skills such as narrative skills, print awareness, and letter knowledge.
Some hot chocolate and some cool crafts make for a fun morning at the Lima Public Library. The library hosted a crafting event Saturday morning to give kids the chance to make faces with stickers. The event promotes facial recognition skills for young children, and they also got the chance to enjoy some cocoa too.
The Lima Public Library is offering students the chance to get some homework help. They are offering an online program called tutor.com, and it gives students access to experts from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m., and all it takes is a library card. Besides helping students, adult library users can get assistance with their resumes. The Lima Public Library hopes this could be a great resource for their users.
The Lima Rotary Club learned that the Lima Public Library is about more than just books. A representative from the library spoke at Monday's meeting about all the different services and activities the library offers to the public for free. Many people don't know that a free library card can get them access to a variety of online resources for both adults and kids. It can be used to register for services like tutoring, checking out ebooks, and even borrowing movies and TV shows digitally. In person, families can register for events like crafts and scavenger hunts to get kids excited to learn.
August 22, 2024, Press Release from the Dollar General Literacy Foundation: Goodlettsville, Tennessee – August 22, 2024 – Today, the Dollar General Literacy Foundation (DGLF) announced the award of more than $115,000 in youth literacy grants to Ohio nonprofit organizations, libraries and schools. The funds are part of more than $4 million recently awarded across the country for recipients to use the funds to purchase books, technology, equipment or materials to help extend a brighter future for K-12 students. Ohio recipients are below, and a comprehensive list of grant recipients may be found online at www.dgliteracy.org. The Ohio grants are expected to positively impact the lives of nearly 16,000 individuals in the state. Applications for the 2025 Dollar General Literacy Foundation grant cycle supporting youth, family, summer and adult literacy programs will be available at www.dgliteracy.org in January 2025. These grants aim to support schools, public libraries, and nonprofit organizations within a 15-mile radius of a Dollar General store or distribution center in implementing new literacy initiatives or expanding existing ones. Your old books could help bring joy to others that the Area Agency on Aging service. The Area Agency on Aging is holding its first-ever book drive. They are collecting new and gently used books for adults and kids. The kids' books will be donated to schools that take part in their retired senior volunteer program. However, the adult books will be used to create a library in the new training center that the agency is putting in.
