The Findlay-Hancock County Public Library celebrated its 135th anniversary of service to its residents on Sunday.
FINDLAY, OH (WLIO) - Sunday was a big day for the Findlay-Hancock County Public Library, celebrating 135 years of service to county residents.
The library recently updated some of its spaces with new paint colors, carpeting, and department shifts to create a better flow for patrons and make the most of the space. Founded in 1890, the library continues to provide books, newspapers, and other physical materials, but it also offers many other services, including adult literacy programs, computer learning, and a variety of programming for children, teens, and adults. To commemorate the occasion, historic photos and facts were displayed throughout the library.

"Well, we're thrilled that we've been serving the community for 135 years here at the library. If you've been around today, we have lots of pictures of the many changes that the library has undergone over that time. But you know what? What remains the same is we're here for our community and so excited to be able to serve them all. We've recently completed some updates at the library, trying to bring new light and color and best use of space into the building. So we're excited to be able to show that off today as well," said Sarah Clevidence, director of the Findlay-Hancock Co. Public Library.
"You know, our community really values the public library here in Findlay and Hancock County; we circulated over a million items last year. So something that we often hear, we librarians will often hear out in the community, is, 'Gosh, isn't everything online right now?' Digital resources are an important aspect of what we offer, but that's only 19% of our circulation. The majority of our patrons are coming in here to get their hands on real books, movies, music that they want to check out and enjoy with their families," said Clevidence.
