The Lima Community Improvement Corporation (LCIC) held a public open house Monday. Monday's open house gave the public an opportunity to LCIC Executive Director, Marcie Barlow, along with board members. Also, residents learned more about the corporation's mission to bring more family owned residential properties by rehabilitating existing homes in addition to infilling vacant land parcels in the city. Recently, the LCIC received a grant to help fulfill this mission.
LIMA, OH (WLIO) - They are continuing their mission of tackling housing, distressed property, and neighborhood improvements within the city of Lima.
The City of Lima and the Lima Community Improvement Corporation awarded Burns Dental with the second-ever Better Blocks for Business grant. The program provides businesses along commercial corridors in distressed neighborhoods with money to make building improvements. Dr. Alyson Amerson has been practicing in Lima for 17 years. In the past year, she has been able to buy the building that is home to her practice on South Main Street. Now, thanks to the grant, she can give it a needed facelift.
The Lima Community Improvement Corporation board members announced that Marcie Barlow will be running the organization that was started just a couple of years ago to help Lima maximize its development potential. Barlow has worked with similar organizations in Pennsylvania and southern Ohio, and she is ready to use her expertise in addressing the housing needs and economic development growth of Lima.
LIMA, OH (WLIO) - Things are coming together in the development of the Lima Community Improvement Corporation.
Tuesday's meeting focused on the determination of goals and objectives, the creation of a mission and vision, and the finalization of the strategic plan for the LCIC. Some plans they have drafted include improving houses in poor condition, demolition of abandoned properties, development of programs to promote home ownership, improvement of infrastructure, and the construction of neighborhood amenities such as parks and gardens.
The Community Improvement Corporation is part of Mayor Sharetta Smith's focus to improve housing in the city. The board is made up of 12 people including members of the city’s administration and elected officials, Lima School Board, community members, and members of the chambers of commerce. The first meeting basically set up the by-laws for the Community Improvement Corporation and elected the president and other office holders for the board. In future meetings, the work will begin in revitalizing Lima’s neighborhoods.
