A Celina man has died following a crash Tuesday evening in Mercer County. Just before 6 PM, 47-year old Anthony Cole of Celina was driving a van eastbound on State Route 707 west of Wabash Road when he traveled left-of-center for an unknown reason and collided into a semi heading westbound. Cole was pronounced dead at the scene.
A Coldwater man has been arrested following a search warrant executed at his residence Monday afternoon. 55-year-old Jeffery Marbaugh was arrested and transported to the Mercer County Adult Detention Facility for felony possession of drugs. On Monday, the Mercer County Sheriff's Office suspected drug activity at Marbaugh's residence at 502 West Plum Street in Coldwater and obtained a search warrant from the Celina Municipal Court.
The Mercer County Special Olympics and the Mercer County Sheriff's Office battled it out on the basketball court on Monday night. Inside the Celina Field House was the 4th annual "Bobcats" versus "Deputies" basketball game where the Special Olympics and Sheriff's Office teams fought for king of the hardwood. Earlier in the evening, the Special Olympics Skills Team, known as the Wildcats, also put the Deputies' basketball skills to the test with their own game with the Special Olympics and Unified Cheer Teams performing between the two games. This annual basketball game has grown over the past few years and attracts many in the community to join.

November 21, 2024, Press Release from the Mercer County Sheriff's Office: Celina, OH – Mercer County Sheriff Jeff Grey reports the arrest of an individual yesterday on drug related charges. On Wednesday, November 20th at 1:20 PM a deputy of the Mercer County Sheriff’s Office stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation. Information obtained from the traffic stop lead to the application of a search warrant. Deputies were assisted by Mercer County Prosecutor Erin Minor in applying for the search warrant, which was later reviewed and granted by Celina Municipal Court Judge Kathryn Speelman.
One man is dead following a crash over the weekend in Mercer County. At approximately 3:04 p.m. Sunday afternoon, 44-year-old Kimo Bechtol was pronounced dead at the scene of a single-vehicle crash on State Route 49, near the intersection of Fox Road, south of Fort Recovery. Two passengers, a 13-year-old and an 8-year-old, were injured, and both were transported to Mercer Health in Coldwater. The two minors were then transferred to a Dayton hospital, with the 13-year-old suffering serious injuries.

The Ohio Department of Public Safety has advised our office that we will be receiving grants to aide our deputies in reducing traffic related fatalities and serious injury accidents in Mercer County. These grants run from October 1, 2024 to September 30, 2025.
