Residents and city officials gathered Tuesday Evening inside the City Club to view the latest plans for the multi-million dollar Lima Community Aquatic Center project.
It's offering a new route to repay federal loans under far more generous terms. President Joe Biden announced the plan in August, but it was overshadowed by his sweeping plan to slash or eliminate student debt for 40 million Americans. Education department officials today called the new plan a "Student Loan Safety Net" that'll prevent borrowers from getting overloaded with debt. The President is moving forward with the repayment plan even as his one-time debt cancellation faces an uncertain fate before the Supreme Court.
"Direct Access Testing" just started this week where people can get a variety of lab tests without a doctor's order. Hospital officials say it's a way to help people without insurance get basic testing done. It's similar to the screenings provided at local health fairs which are convenient and at a low cost.
The last two days of the Lima Salvation Army Red Kettle Campaign had to be canceled due to the arctic temperatures and that was a big concern about reaching their $125,000 goal. Thanks to the generosity of others, the kettle campaign collected $128,000 in donations. Salvation Army officials are thankful for all of the support for their mission.
