Family Resource Center received a grant for four million dollars over a period of four years to continue their mission. They first received the grant in 2020. The funds will be used to expand behavioral health services already offered, such as counseling and therapy, peer support, and case management. The goal is to make mental health services more accessible to more people.
It was Veteran's Day at the Allen County Fair and hundreds showed up in observance. Each year, the Allen County Veterans Service Commission organizes a celebration where veterans from all branches and all eras get a chance to visit and reminisce about their time of service. Friday, those who received the purple heart were recognized and everyone heard about a new group for peer support.
One staff member from each of the school buildings was nominated for the Outstanding 11 award by their peers. The award is given to a staff member that exemplifies the 11 qualities outlined by educator Ron Clark as the best to motivate and educate children. Some of those qualities include enthusiasm, compassion, and creativity.
Director of Facilities Management Chad Martin getting the Eagle Award which recognizes an individual who has demonstrated outstanding performance, leadership, and significant contributions in healthcare facilities management. Martin was nominated by his peers at the medical center.
Allen East SADD member Grace Studer says, “We’re trying to send as many people to conference as we can because there, we have a better chance of making a difference because we are with peers that have the same beliefs as us.”
David Berger Former Lima Mayor made this remark about the Conference of Mayors, “ It’s absolutely critical to not just our local communities but to our nation that this organization remains vital and focused. Because what’s on the agenda today is nothing less that the United States of America. Thank you all.”
Students at Allen East High School got to sit behind the wheel of a distracted driving simulation to see the real-life consequences of what it’s like to take your eyes off the road. According to the CDC, car crashes are the number one cause of death for teens in the country, and most of them involve reckless and distracted driving. It’s this preventable health epidemic that the students in SADD are trying to fight.
