“I don’t think you realize how much money you’re going to spend each month until you’re the one actually spending it. So I think that it gives them a greater appreciation for their parents, their guardians, caretakers, but then I also think it’s preparing them for the next step after they graduate high school,” said Kelsey Joseph, director of marketing for Superior Credit Union.
PERRY TOWNSHIP, OH (WLIO) - Graduates spanning decades gathered in Perry to see old friends and reminisce about their alma mater.
LIMA, OH (WLIO) - Hundreds of young musicians from across the region entertained fairgoers Sunday evening.
Perry Commodores welcoming 61 graduating classes to their first ever all Alumni Reunion. Around 400 Perry graduates and guests from the classes of 1961 to present were on hand for the event. Each of the classes have held their own personal reunions before, but organizers thought that bringing everyone together would give different classes and generations a chance to reminisce together. But this could be just the beginning for these type of events.
A mock crash demonstration was set up to show students the aftermath of a dangerous crash where students were not paying attention and were driving impaired. The demonstration included outcomes such as arrest and legal proceedings, life flight, jaws of life, severe injuries, and even death.
Ohio State Lima invited over 100 sophomores and juniors from 13 high schools to their STEM Steps program. The event shows the students the role of women in the STEM fields and how they impact the world. They also get some hands-on learning in the areas of physics, earth and computer science, and biology. The girls may have come to the campus with an interest in a STEM field, but learn there is a whole lot more to explore.
The Shawnee Optimist Club holding their annual Honor and Achievement Luncheon. The awards are to recognize individuals who have shown their desire to be role models and leaders not only in the classroom but also in their communities. Students from Apollo, Shawnee, Lima Central Catholic and Perry High Schools were honored.
This year's ballot will contain a proposal from Perry Local Schools to renew an existing 4.9 mills Current Expense Levy. The levy would generate $439,905 for the next five years for the district. The current expense levy is used for utilities, diesel fuel, insurance, supplies, textbooks, and salaries. All costs of day-to-day activities are paid with the district's general fund.
Ohio Means Jobs is dedicated to helping people find career paths and now they are giving students a chance to land on their feet out of high school with a new scholarship program. Job and career coaches from Ohio Means Jobs have been helping students in every high school in Allen County to prepare for their future after graduation. This year is the first time they have offered a scholarship to one of those students, and the money came straight from OMJ employees who donated during various office fundraisers. Perry High School was the school chosen by OMJ to receive the scholarship, and Caitland Boroff was the lucky recipient.
A community is coming together to mourn the loss of two people lost in a house fire. A vigil was held at Perry High School tonight to remember mother and daughter, Heather and Destiney Money. The two were loved by many in the community. People gathered and prayed for the family, many with heavy hearts and teary eyes. Everyone was encouraged to leave a note for the husband and father Joey, as well as the firefighters who were called to the fire. Friends of Destiney says she will be greatly missed.
