Ten schools participated in this year's Kewpee Showcase of Bands. Each one has spent weeks perfecting their themed performances and marches. The event isn't a competition; it's just a chance for bands to show off the halftime shows they've been working on and listen to their peers from other districts.Â
"I really enjoyed playing, and I think coming to the fair and playing for a lot of people like this. This is a huge crowd, I think it's really cool we can play for those people. I think I'll remember most the people, because the people that are in it with me, they really make it fun and easy to enjoy," said Eli Lehman, a Bluffton sophomore who played a trumpet solo at the fair.Â

"Last year I was in 7th grade, and we played this, and it was really fun, but there's a lot of people, so it's really intimidating, but it's fine. A lot of bands come out here and they perform really, really well, and I'm just proud of everyone for that," added Madelyn Jeffers, an 8th grade student playing the alto saxophone with the Lima Central Catholic marching band.Â
This year's Kewpee Showcase of Bands was hosted by Perry, who had the honor of kicking off the night with the playing of the anthem.Â
