The 60-acre, 46,000 solar panel site is generating 13.5 megawatts. The project started in April of 2021 and was producing power by the end of November. Because they hit their deadline for start-up, Wapakoneta got a $750,000 tax credit. But the city and partners are not finished, they are already working on Phase three.
The Van Wert Forward project has acquired over 50 properties that will be upgraded over the coming years. Work on the long-awaited “Greater Lima Region Park and Amphitheater is set to begin with phase one of the project which will include the amphitheater and restrooms. The 2.5-million dollar project is funded in part by private donations and state funding dollars. The public-private partnership is a first for the city and will provide a vibrant and versatile public park in the heart of the city.
Assistant Lima City Engineer Ian Kohli explains, “We are going to maintain access to all local businesses and to most of the parking throughout the project. With this closure the parking for the civic center and the Borra Center will be maintained. You’ll just need to access it from the south, from Spring Street.
Council met and approved a resolution with Yard & Company for $156,655, based out of Cincinnati to beautify the village and improve housing with a 4-phase plan. The ground would hold a summit to identify problems in the village, then have an operations plan which would formalize a plan to focus on planning, implementing, and managing growth and development. The third phase would create a plan around a specific place on a regular basis to attract and shape a development objective. The final phase is a comprehensive community investment plan to guide growth and housing in the long term.
ODOT District 1 Deputy Director Chris Hughes explains, “Studies show that r-cuts can reduce fatal crashes by up to 70-percent and total crashes by 40-percent. We find that it is going to be a significant safety improvement.”
