Money raised during the July campaign will go directly toward helping sustain the Salvation Army’s year-round operations in Lima.
Summer is in full swing, but it's not stopping Lima from getting in the holiday spirit. With Christmas under five months away, the Salvation Army is wrapping up its 'Christmas in July' fundraiser that assists those in need. The campaign started back on July 8th and runs through this Saturday at all Chief and Kewpee locations locally. The program relies on the generous help of volunteers and donations from those who lend a hand to those in need.
Summertime is a difficult time for non-profits as the need remains as donations traditionally fall off. Organizations like the Salvation Army provide a variety of assistance to area residents all year long. They provide summer camps for the youth and continue their emergency food pantry, rent, and utility assistance for those struggling to make ends meet. The Christmas in July event helps to keep these programs running.
Beginning today, you can find volunteers outside area Chief Supermarkets, Kewpee's and Sam's Club collecting donations. The proceeds go to those in need and provide necessities. During the pandemic, people may be losing jobs or small businesses may not be recovering. And although donations typically drop in the summer, the Salvation Army says its just as an important time as ever to donate, if possible.
It's going to take a "Christmas miracle" to meet their goal according to the Lima Salvation Army.
The bells will be ringing as the annual Lima Salvation Army's "Red Kettle Campaign" kicks off.
The Salvation Army reached their goal by over four thousand dollars for this year's Christmas in July Kettle Campaign.
