This year, McDonald’s restaurants across the region will be recognizing Veterans Day in a special way, by offering current and former military members a free meal.

The Garden Cafe has officially opened its doors for the season at Apollo Career Center. Customers were excited to get a table on day one at the student-run restaurant. Culinary arts students take care of everything from food preparation and menu layout to serving customers and handling the business end of the cafe's operation.

A downtown Kenton restaurant caught on fire early Wednesday morning. Around 3:45 a.m., the Kenton Fire Department was called to the 101 Smokehouse restaurant at 120 South Main Street for reports of a 3-alarm fire. The building was fully engulfed in flames and had significant structural damage. Mutual aid was provided by McGuffey, Ada, Forest, Mount Victory, and Bellefontaine fire departments.

The Spartan Inn is the pride and joy of the Lima City Schools culinary and food service management program. The restaurant is run by the students as they learn the fundamentals of the food industry with hands-on real work experience. The students say it is an experience that exceeds their expectations.

The culinary student-run restaurant will be open to the public from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. every Tuesday and Thursday. The Spartan Inn, located in the northwest wing of the school, has a separate entrance and parking area. The restaurant is not open if school is not in session. The Spartan Inn serves a hot buffet bar, soups, salad and desserts for dine-in or carryout. Different entrees are featured throughout the year.
