SHAWNEE TOWNSHIP, OH (WLIO) - The Garden Cafe has officially opened its doors for the season at Apollo Career Center.

Customers were excited to get a table on day one at the student-run restaurant.

Customers were excited to get a table on day one at the student-run restaurant. Culinary arts students take care of everything from food preparation and menu layout to serving customers and handling the business end of the cafe's operation.

Students and instructors say operating the restaurant while getting training through the two-year program is challenging and rewarding.

Students and instructors say operating the restaurant while getting training through the two-year program is challenging and rewarding.

"We don't stop too much around here, but yeah, we are absolutely running a classroom and a business at the same time, but it's a great skillset for the kids; it's great knowledge for them to become entrepreneurs," explained Carrie Prince, culinary arts instructor at Apollo Career Center.

"Time management, moving with purpose—it's like moving around a kitchen; you got to, like, can't be walking around aimlessly; I got to be knowing what to be doing," stated R.J. Blosser, a senior and culinary arts student at Apollo Career Center.

The Garden Cafe is open Tuesday through Thursday each week from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Apollo Career Center.

The Garden Cafe is open Tuesday through Thursday each week from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Apollo. Lunch is $9 for the hot, cold, and dessert bar with a beverage.
